THE PROJECT
The AS350 - a light utility helicopter that’s sometimes fondly referred to as a “squirrel” - has been manufactured by Airbus’ helicopter branch for nearly 50 years. For this project, we supplied brand-new, white seating for an AS350. This helicopter’s crew and pax seats were of different generation models of seating design. Generation Global completed this project for a New Zealand-based client, including certification.

The crew seats in this helicopter are of a Generation II Design. They feature prominent upper seatbacks that broaden out into circular side bolsters. We supplied White Leather (ADI-1021) covers that featured a handsome embroidery of the Airbus logo on each headrest. Center inserts were flat and sported wide, white double-stitched bands. We used the same double stitching on the side bolsters of both the base and the back - this added linework gives the seat a more well-defined appearance.
The rear seats for this AS 350 were of a Generation III Design - we also outfitted them in white leather (ADI-1021) so that the entire interior would be matching. This design is more sophisticated; each seat sports a wider overall shape and has horizontal double stitching on its inserts. Like the crew seats, the rear seats also featured an embroidered Airbus logo on their headrests (just below the “donut hole”).
In order to provide exceptional workmanship like this, we need to be meticulous about every detail. Every seam and stitch line has to be just so to ensure each seat is identical to its neighbouring seat. And all leather pieces are carefully inspected to ensure that there are no imperfections - when working with white leather, in particular, even minuscule defects become highly visible. We proudly dedicate this level of care to every project we work on.
