THE PROJECT: Cessna 180A Skywagon Seat Refurbishment by Generation Global
The Cessna 180A Skywagon remains one of the most iconic utility aircraft ever produced, known for its rugged design and continued use in rural and bush flying environments. For this project, a client based in New Zealand sent their Cessna 180A seats to Generation Global’s Nelson facility for a complete interior refurbishment. All work was completed under our New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) maintenance approval, ensuring safety and compliance.

At Generation Global, we specialize in aircraft seat refurbishment using high-quality aviation-approved materials and precision workmanship. For this Cessna 180A, each seat was stripped back to its bare frame, fitted with new diaphragms, foam cushions, and custom-made leather seat covers.
The refurbishment process involved several key stages:
-
New diaphragms were carefully tensioned and secured in place
-
Cushions were shaped and attached for optimal comfort
-
Finally, custom covers were fitted for a snug and professional finish
The seat covers were crafted from Charcoal Grey aviation leather (ADI-1121). Each cover featured horizontal seam inserts on the seat bases and backs for added texture and detail. The outer seams were finished with matching piping for a clean, classic look.
A standout feature was the embroidered Cessna logo, carefully stitched in charcoal grey thread to reflect the original insignia design found in the aircraft’s documentation. The detailed embroidery adds both authenticity and a touch of class.
