THE PROJECT

The Cessna 185 Skywagon - first built in 1961, this gorgeous plane has a look that evokes a mostly bygone era of classical design. We performed a full replacement for two crew seats and two second-row auxiliary seats. All parts were ordered from the Generation Global website, and we fitted the frames separately at our own Nelson facility, since our client was local. See the results for yourself!

As part of our total seat refresh, we installed new diaphragms, cushions, and seat covers. Even high-quality foam has a limited life span - over time, it becomes compressed, providing much less comfort. The new diaphragms we used are tensioned across each frame, removing the need for out-of-fashion springs. And the cushions are ergonomically designed, providing both leg and lumbar support. Modern comfort in a classic airplane - it can be done!

For the seat covers, we used Titanium Grey leather (ADI-1231) with a dark, Charcoal Grey leather (ADI-1121) piping - we think the contrast looks very sharp. The lower backs of both the crew seats and the auxiliary seats were outfitted with perforated leather (SP-1 perforation), which helps improve breathability. For a finishing flourish, we had the Cessna 185 Skywagon insignia emblazoned on each seat back. The detailed embroidery work came out beautifully.

To keep the theme consistent, we used the same Titanium Grey leather (ADI-1231) on all pull handle covers and on each of the armrests, which are mounted on the doors

This Cessna 185 Skywagon is ready to take to the skies again - with an interior that’s looking better than ever
