Cessna 185 Skywagon – Seat Replacement
The Project
The Cessna 185 Skywagon, a classic aircraft first introduced in 1961, is beloved for its timeless design and exceptional versatility. To bring a more modern level of comfort to this historic plane, Generation Global was tasked with performing a complete replacement of the aircraft’s seats. The project involved two crew seats and two second-row auxiliary seats. All the parts were ordered via Generation Global’s website, and the frames were fitted locally at our Nelson facility.

Our focus was on maintaining the Skywagon's classic look while enhancing comfort and aesthetic appeal:

Ergonomics & Comfort:

We replaced the diaphragms, cushions, and seat covers. Over time, even the highest-quality foam loses its effectiveness, but the new ergonomically designed cushions provide both leg and lumbar support. The tensioned diaphragms replace outdated springs, ensuring the seats offer the best in modern comfort.

Leather Seat Covers:

The seats were outfitted in Titanium Grey leather (ADI-1231), with Charcoal Grey leather piping (ADI-1121) creating a sharp contrast that elevates the interior's appearance.

For added comfort, we used perforated leather (SP-1 perforation) on the lower backs of the crew and auxiliary seats, improving breathability.

To complete the look, each seat back was embroidered with the Cessna 185 Skywagon insignia, showcasing expert craftsmanship.

Consistency Across the Interior:

The same Titanium Grey leather was used for armrests and pull handle covers, ensuring that the design theme was cohesive throughout the cabin.

The Result
With these modern upgrades, this Cessna 185 Skywagon now boasts a stylish, comfortable interior, ready for many more adventures in the sky. The new seats are as timeless as the aircraft itself, blending classic design with modern comfort.
To keep the theme consistent, we used the same Titanium Grey leather (ADI-1231) on all pull handle covers and on each of the armrests, which are mounted on the doors
