Project Spotlight: MD 902 Crash-Tested Seating Upgrade
When it comes to modern aircraft, crash-tested seating plays a critical role in ensuring passenger and crew safety. However, upgrading seat upholstery for crash-tested cushions can be a tricky task. For this project, Generation Global was tasked with supplying new crew seat dress covers for an MD 902 helicopter, all while maintaining the seat's safety rating. This project was made simple due to the fact that we provided a pre-made seat cover kit, which was easy to install with no customization required. Easy Installation with OEM Compatibility
The MD 902 helicopter features two slung crew seats, and our solution ensured that the new seat covers fit perfectly while maintaining the OEM crash-tested cushions. The seat base attaches conveniently to a base plate using velcro straps, while the back covers are securely fastened onto the seat frame with velcro. The headrests are included in the kit, and they also feature velcro attachments to secure them around the frame.
This design not only keeps the seats safe and functional but also allows for easy and quick removal and replacement—an added benefit for aircraft maintenance teams.
Stylish, Durable Leather Upholstery
For the upholstery, we selected a sophisticated, Portland grey leather (JLS322) as the primary material. To complement the subdued grey, the seat inserts were made with a darker, Ancient Grey leather (ADI-1151), creating a subtle contrast that enhances the aesthetic appeal of the seats.
Each seat’s edge stitching was carefully matched to the Portland grey leather, providing a sharp and consistent look across the entire seat. The upholstery was backed with fire-resistant nylon for added safety, and velcro pieces were stitched directly into the canvas for increased durability.
